Tourmaline is a complex group of boron silicate minerals that comes in a wide range of colors, including black, green, pink, and multi-colored varieties within a single crystal. It forms in igneous and metamorphic rocks, especially in granite-rich environments, where hot mineral-rich fluids allow crystals to grow over long periods. Historically, tourmaline was often confused with other gemstones due to its color variety, but it became more widely recognized and valued in the 18th–19th centuries after being imported from Sri Lanka and later discovered in deposits around the world, including Brazil and Africa. It is mainly used in jewelry and decorative pieces, appreciated for its durability and vivid natural color range.
