It is a type of quartz that is typically golden to reddish-brown in color with a silky luster and a distinctive chatoyancy, or "cat's eye" effect. This effect is caused by the reflection of light off of parallel fibers within the stone, which creates a shimmering, shifting line that resembles the eye of a tiger.
